Faet is taking action for achieving sustainable goals

We were delighted to welcome FAET as bag sponsors at CWIEME Berlin this year.

At Hyve we have a strong focus on our ESG strategy, and we were excited that FAET follow that ambition, demonstrated in the bags they have provided for CWIEME Berlin 2023. To learn more about the ESG strategy at FAET, we have asked Dr. Dario Ferrigato, Commercial Manager at FAET, some questions:

Hyve: The sponsored bags at CWIEME this year were great – we love that you have highlighted the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals on the bag. Can you outline your ESG strategy at FAET and what is the motivation behind this?

FAET: We were very happy with the appreciation that we received from many parts of our choice to place UN's Sustainable Development Goals elements on the bags. We wanted to show how even in a communication project one can be inspired by principles such as respect for the environment. The choice to use organic cotton, deriving from EU organic farming, guarantees the non-use of pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, for both environmental and social advantages. Furthermore, organic cotton farming allows producers to re-enter the Farmer Engagement and Development program which verifies that agricultural projects are paid fairly. This simple exercise is part of a broader corporate vision that has always tried to place respect for people and the environment at the center of its development. We believe that doing business is first of all an assumption of responsibility towards one's collaborators, stakeholders, local communities and the environment.

Hyve: What challenges have you found when trying to implement this strategy?

FAET: It is certainly challenging to have this value scheme, which is complex especially for a Group like ours that has only recently entered the size of a medium-sized company. Projects also need internal resources to carry them out, people who therefore invest time alongside normal business activities in an increasingly complex market context. We are obviously getting support from specialized external companies, and we hope in the medium term to create a dedicated internal team

Hyve: There is so much to do around sustainability, how did you narrow it down to the areas you are focusing on i.e Affordable and Clean Energy, Climate Action, Life Below Water, Life on Land etc

FAET: What has been said about the vastness of intervention ambitions is true. We have worked on a plastic-free approach, on the recycling of paper used in various business processes and on the use of energy from renewable sources. There is still a lot to be done and we want to do it in order to achieve a viable sustainability budget.

Hyve: What are the top three things you think the CWIEME industry should be doing as part of their sustainability goals?

FAET: Our sector has the advantage of being strategic in the energy conversion process. I therefore believe that a continuous tension towards innovation is essential to always guarantee more efficient technologies.
