Cleef Thackwell
Head of Commercial HiSpeed Ltd
Cleef Thackwell is Head of Commercial at HiSpeed Ltd., where he leads commercial strategy, business development, and the market deployment of advanced electric drive technologies.
He has more than 15 years of experience in electric machines, traction drives, and global business development across the automotive sector. Before joining HiSpeed Ltd., he held electric drive engineering roles at Jaguar Land Rover, where he led traction motor design, and at Volkswagen AG, where he designed motors induction motors for the early years of the MEB platform.
He began his career at Continental Automotive GmbH in electromechanical R&D, optimising stepper motors. He holds a double Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany and ENSEA, France.
2026 Event Agenda Sessions
Oil-immersed Closed-slot Continuous Wave Winding Stator Technology
- Closed-slot Continuous Wave Winding technology as a key enabler for direct stator oil immersion with no compromise on electromagnetic performance: eliminating the need for a through-bore sleeve and avoiding the airgap penalty that limits torque density in conventional immersed stator designs.
- The benefits of direct oil immersion: higher continuous power density, improved thermal transients for high-load operation, and a cooling architecture applicable across automotive traction, aerospace propulsion, high-performance robotics, and industrial drives.
- HiSpeed Ltd.'s journey from concept to series production: industrialisation challenges, design-for-manufacture trade-offs, and the commercial case for CSCW as a differentiated, scalable platform for cost-competitive 400V and 800V electrified powertrains.
