Decarbonising the Copper Value Chain: Meeting Environmental Requirements for Winding Wire

As motor manufacturers face increasing regulatory and customer pressure to reduce environmental impact, the copper value chain is becoming a critical area of focus. Copper remains a key material in motor design, and its sourcing and processing play a significant role in the overall footprint of winding wire.

This session explores how greater transparency and understanding of the copper value chain can enable more informed specification decisions, support realistic sustainability targets, and help define feasible pathways for reducing embedded carbon in motor production.

  • Copper production routes and their associated environmental impacts
  • The role and limitations of recycled copper in motor applications
  • Strategies to reduce the environmental footprint of copper used in winding wire
  • Implications for motor manufacturers in setting specifications and future supply requirements
