Collaboration, creativity and community is inspiring at CWIEME Berlin
CWIEME Berlin, the leading event for coil winding, transformer, electric motor, generator and e-mobility supply chains, opened its doors on May 14, 2024 at Messe Berlin. As the sun shone down on the city, thousands of professionals met to network, form new partnerships and learn more about the latest trends in electrical manufacturing.
The day began with Patrick Hyslop, Event Director of CWIEME Berlin, welcoming attendees to the 2024 show. Hyslop shared that, this year, there would be more speakers than ever before, and a more diverse range of exhibitors, partly thanks to the formation of Czech Republic and Latvia pavilions and the return of the India pavilion.
In the morning of day one, the India pavilion was visited by Parvathaneni Harish, Ambassador of India to Germany. While attending the exhibition, the Ambassador visited several stands to find out more about the incredible impact that Indian businesses were having on the electrical manufacturing industry in Europe.
For the opening remarks, Hyslop was joined by Mario Viarengo, General Marketing Manager for Shell’s Industrial Sector, one of CWIEME Berlin’s 2024 sponsors. Viarengo’s talk focussed on the world’s growing need for food and infrastructure, and how this was driving the demand for electricity. He also shared how this increased demand needs to be matched with a focus on sustainability and explained Shell’s own ambition to become a net zero carbon company by 2050.
Across the two stages – the main stage and the e-mobility stage – there was a huge array of speakers, including representatives from Shell, Siemens, The International Copper Association, thyssenkrupp, STILRIDE, McKinsey & Company and Ford Europe. Topics included a panel discussion on decarbonising the transformer supply chain, electric vehicle recharging, transformer oils and transformers for offshore wind applications.
“As first time exhibitors, Bosch has an extremely positive first impression of CWIEME Berlin,” commented Francis van der Sluis, Senior Engineer at Bosch, one of this year’s exhibitors. “We’ve met all kinds of people from several areas of the industry, including suppliers, competitors – which is vital in giving us an understanding of what is happening elsewhere – but most importantly, potential customers.”
On day one, CWIEME Berlin truly embodied the spirit of collaboration, creativity and community, with attendees from across the globe coming together to solve some of the core challenges facing the industry today. The impressive speaker programme, high level of innovation across its exhibitors and, of course, the beer gardens scattered between CWIEME Berlin’s five halls created an incredible atmosphere that will no doubt continue over the following days.
On day two, discussions will focus on diversifying the electrical manufacturing workforce, regulatory changes and the future of rare earth elements. For more information, visit berlin.cwiemeevents.com.
