At CWIEME Berlin 2026, Hitachi Energy introduced two new transformer component solutions designed to support more sustainable and space-efficient power networks. The launch highlighted how manufacturers are responding to evolving grid requirements, regulatory changes and growing demand for infrastructure that supports electrification.

The announcement

Hitachi Energy used CWIEME Berlin 2026 as the platform to launch GARIP® Eco, a new generation of SF₆-free transformer GIS bushings, alongside VUBB Compact, a purpose-built on-load tap changer designed for compact transformer applications.

GARIP Eco has been developed to support the industry's transition away from SF₆-based switchgear technologies. Built for compatibility with modern SF₆-free GIS systems, the solution is designed to maintain established thermal and dielectric performance while supporting a range of alternative gas technologies and retrofit applications.

Alongside this, Hitachi Energy introduced the VUBB Compact tap changer, designed to help transformer manufacturers reduce footprint, weight and material use without compromising performance. Available in multiple variants for different voltage classes, the technology supports more flexible transformer designs and installation options.

Together, the launches reflect the increasing focus on sustainability, efficiency and adaptability across transformer design and manufacturing.

Why it matters

As utilities and manufacturers work to modernise grid infrastructure, demand is growing for technologies that reduce environmental impact while improving operational flexibility. These launches demonstrate how component innovation continues to play a critical role in enabling the next generation of transformers and grid assets.
